_ By Plane / Helicopter

The nearest international airport is Juliana (SXM), located in St Maarten on the Dutch side of St Martin. But you can also fly via San Juan in Puerto Rico or Pointe à Pitre in Guadeloupe. Once you've arrived in Juliana, local airlines provide connections to St Barthélemy airport.
Only certain companies are authorized to land on the island, as pilots require a special license.

_ By Boat

If you prefer to arrive by sea, there are several options. The ferry, with several companies offering crossings between St Barth and St Martin/St Maarten, and the cab boat, an original and very pleasant way of getting to the island.

Climate

The island's tropical maritime climate offers temperatures ranging from 27°C to 31°C, depending on the season. And there are only two seasons! The "Lent", or dry season, from December to May, when the air is cooler, and the "Wintering", from June to November, when temperatures are at their highest.

Time difference

The time difference with mainland France is 5 hours in winter and 6 hours in summer. Compared with the US East Coast, there is just a one-hour time difference in winter.
In summer, the time is the same.

Water

Running water comes from the seawater desalination plant. There are no rivers or springs in St Barths, so please manage your water consumption carefully and don't waste it!

Electricity

Current on the island is 220 volts and 60 Hz. For any American appliance, it's essential to have a transformer and adaptable plugs. And if you've forgotten them, don't hesitate to ask for them in the hotels. They can often help you out.

Formalities

For nationals of the European Community, an identity card or passport is sufficient. For members of other countries, a passport is required, as well as a visa in certain cases. Please check with the authorities in your country of residence. Be sure to specify that you are going to the French overseas territories, as an extension may be required. And in all cases, you'll need a return ticket.

Language

French is the official language, of course, but English is also widely spoken. And if you like, you can also try your hand at Creole!

Currency

In St Barths, as in mainland France, the euro is used. But the dollar is accepted everywhere.

Population

The latest census shows a population of some 8400.
St Barth is mostly populated by descendants of Norman and Breton settlers, mainly from Gustavia. To these two groups must of course be added the Metropolitans and Europeans who have come to settle. Other countries are also represented, with a growing population of South Americans, not to mention the many Americans who spend a large part of the year in their sumptuous villas. St Barth is renowned for its hospitality. Whether they're natives, Europeans or Americans, all the locals are particularly warm and welcoming!

Phone

Landline and mobile numbers have 10 digits. Landline numbers start with 05 90 and mobile 06 90. To call abroad, the international outgoing prefix is 00.

Vaccines

No vaccinations are required before arriving on the island.
